'1940' Candlelit Choral Evensong a great success
On 22nd September at 6:30pm, we held a Candlelit choral evensong, using the choir stalls and lecturn that would have been in use at that time, to mark the anniversary of the bomb close to the Church on 24 September 1940.
We were joined by the Mayor and by Sutton Chorale. The service took place on the final day of the Heritage Open Days exhibition at St Nicholas, which told the stories of individuals behind the legacy of art in the church, including the windows. Some stained glass windows were lost as a result of the Second World War, but we give thanks for what survived and especially that there was no loss of life.
